Description:
Join us for the next in our series of Monday Workshops at Jing Ying!
Monkey boxing (Hou Quan) is an acrobatic style of kung fu that uses a variety of kicks and strikes to vulnerable areas of the body. It is characterized by forward and backward lunges, running on all fours, dives,... rolls, leaps and techniques executed from a squatting or stooping position. High level practioners strive to take on the spirit and personality of the monkey so that the forms often have a comical and entertaining quality. Swift series of movements are followed by moments of "play" in which the monkey grooms itself, nervously looks around, eats or drinks.
Shifu Sean Marshall was featured in the Animal Planet special, "Kung Fu, the Animal Within" where he demonstrated his Monkey Kung Fu. The workshop will cover individual skills and segments of the form for Monkey Boxing and Monkey Staff. The material will be covered on two consecutive Mondays - July 19 and July 26.
For Jing Ying members, the cost will be $20 for any individual day or $30 for both sessions.
For non-members, the cost will be $25 for any individual day or $40 for both sessions.
You do not have to attend the first session in order to attend the second session.
